Jaguar has revealed the updated I-PACE, which is now available in South Africa.
The I-PACE is the first all-electric vehicle from the brand and now offers a new infotainment system, improved driver assistance technologies, and quicker charging capabilities.
Form the outside, it features large rims, a true Jaguar-styled nose, and a high sill on the rear.
A new bright pack option is available which adds details such as an Atlas Grey grille tip finish, whereas the black pack option sees the rear badges finished in gloss black.
The interior, however, is where most of the upgrades took place.
Infotainment
A new Pivi Pro infotainment system – which is also being rolled out to other models from the company – is installed and features a 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster, a 10-inch upper centre screen, and a 5-inch lower centre screen.
This new infotainment system is easier to navigate than before and cuts down on steps to access vital functions, said Jaguar.
Along with the screen, the navigation system received an update and can now use self-learning to optimise routing, voice guidance remains quiet when driving through familiar areas, and maps will always stay updated due to software-over-the-air functionality.
A standard fitted smartphone pack also enables Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as an embedded SIM and Bluetooth capabilities which can pair two phones simultaneously.
As a final upgrade to the infotainment system, an optional wireless charging pad with signal booster is now available.
Driver assistance
A new 3D camera provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding area and potential hazards while in the car, along with a ClearSight rearview mirror that improves vision and ensures the driver will always be able to see what is behind them .
This new rearview feature uses a wide-angle, rear-facing camera that is linked to an HD screen within the rearview mirror and can be controlled through a small toggle switch.
Finally, a cabin air ionisation system is fitted – which is designed to remove allergens and uses a filtration system to capture ultrafine particles to improve occupant health and wellbeing.
Charging
As standard, the I-PACE will now come with an 11kW on-board charger which enables quicker charging times via three-phase electricity supplies.
When connected to an 11kW wall box, 53km of range can be achieved within an hour, whereas a full charge from empty now only takes 8.6 hours – improved from the 12.75 hours on the previous 7kW chargers.
Those customers with access to only single-phase electricity must continue to use the 7kW wall boxes, however, which allows up to 35km of range in an hour.
As with the navigation, software-over-the-air functionality extends to battery management and charging too, which enables the I-PACE to stay up to date with current advancements in the field.
When charging “on the go”, a 60kW charge will add up to 76km in 15 minutes, while a 100kW charge will add up to 127km.
With a range of up to 470km from its 90kWh battery, customers with an average daily commute would only need to charge their I-PACE once a week – according to Jaguar.
