Traction Control. A feature you expect as standard in a modern muscle car. And you won’t be labeled ‘picky’ because after all, high performance does come with a certain degree of risk and so it comes as no surprise that the new Mustang GT has traction control.
However, this isn’t just any Mustang. It’s an all-electric Mustang. But it’s not made by Ford; it comes from Fisher-Price. Yes, the toy company; and it’s made for adults between the ages of 3 and 7.
This Mustang GT, available only in blue or pink, is part of Fisher-Price’s Power Wheels line-up and costs US$359.99; a fraction of the price of a real Mustang GT, with a fraction of the horsepower. Its unique selling point is the computer-controlled Smart Drive powertrain which features traction control. Essentially, it adjusts the motor speed when it detects wheel slip so your kid can safely power through wet grass without losing control. It even has a stability control system which cuts power when it detects a roll-over danger.

Top speed for this Mustang GT is a whopping 5 mph (8.05 km/h) and reversing speed is limited to 2.5 mph (4.02 km/h). A Smooth Start feature ensures jerkiness is reduced when moving off at low speeds and a touchscreen on the dashboard allows you to pick up to 5 speed levels so you can control how fast your kid drives (also a useful feature in cars for teenagers, don’t you think?).
A muscle car isn’t a muscle car without the engine sound and Fisher-Price has a built-in sound system which plays the real ‘Stang’s engine sound according to speed. You can also plug in an MP3 player for your own tunes. It will be available in U.S. stores this December. Kids sure have it good these days.
