Fresh preview of Ford’s second-gen Ranger-based SUV emerges, along with global launch timing
The new-generation 2022 Ford Everest will make its global debut on March 1 – a bit over three months after the incoming Ford Ranger ute on which it’s based.
To mark the announcement, Ford has released a 20-second teaser video showcasing the Australian-developed second-gen 4×4 off-roader’s lighting signature, engine sound, silhouette and adventure capabilities – most of which we’ve seen before courtesy of a previous teaser.
However, what has captured our attention this time around is the sound of a four-cylinder petrol engine as opposed to the gutsy 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 or existing biturbo-diesel ‘Panther’ four-banger already confirmed for the 2022 Ford Ranger line-up.
This is believed to be a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine slated for other markets such as South-East Asia and North America, rather than a pointer to the powertrain line-up for the Aussie market, where diesel power will continue to hold sway.
Due on sale in Australia later this year, the 2022 Ford Everest will adopt much of the platform, mechanical and technological advancements made by the Ranger ute, albeit with a coil-sprung rear-end and three-row wagon body.
As before, the new Everest has been designed and engineered at the Victorian-based Asia Pacific Product Development Centre, with Ford saying it has concentrated heavily on both urban and rural comfort and versatility.
We already know the Blue Oval brand spent months surveying customers when developing the new Ranger, so expect a similar strategy to have been employed here as well.
All will be revealed come 6pm AEDT on March 1, with the debut set to be accompanied by addresses from key Australian-based development team members, including chief platform engineer Ian Foston and design director Max Wolff.
“Our intention from the beginning was to communicate the capability of next-gen Everest with a robust exterior design,” Wolff said.
“On the interior, we created a sanctuary with premium appointments in which customers could feel relaxed, no matter what was going on outside.”
