If you’re looking for a pint-sized electric vehicle that’s perfect for congested cityliving, the Smart EQ ForTwo Cabrio might be for you. Its dinky size makes it easy to park, it potters along with zero emissions, and you can even let the sunshine in. However, Brabus has taken this innocent little EV and turned it into something more sinister called the Ultimate E.
It’s Brabus’ usual trick of taking a Mercedes-Benz product (Smart is owned by Mercedes) and unlocking some additional performance. Typically this Smart EQ ForTwo produces 80bhp from its electric motor and 17kWh battery, but in Brabus guise that rises to 92bhp. While that isn’t Earth-shattering, it is good enough to drop the 0-62mph time by a second – now 10.9 seconds. Theres also 15lb ft more toque on offer over the standard car, bumping the figure to 133lb ft. Interestingly, Brabus appear to have squeezed a little more range from the car, now rated at 78 miles as opposed to 70 miles.
Being a Brabus model, the exterior has also been given a good going over. A substantially more aggressive bodykit has been applied with larger grilles, wheel arch extensions, and a notable diffuser. 18-inch alloy wheels and low-profile tyres complete a considerably sportier look. Factor in the black and red paintwork, and you can quickly see how this has become the evil twin of the usually innocent Smart.
The interior follows a similar trend with contrasting stitching and the obligatory Brabus badging.
This Brabus Ultimate E might not be the tuner’s first all-electric effort, that honour belongs to the Brabus EQC, but it is the tiniest. There’s no news on pricing at the moment, but we’d expect it to be considerably larger than the car’s footprint.
