The first batch of Smart #1 has rolled out of the factory and into their new homes. Deliveries started on 23-September-2022 and by 30-September, a week after deliveries started, the company has already delivered 500 units of the electric vehicle (EV) to customers.
In case you missed it, Smart has rebranded itself into an all-electric brand under the new joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, with the Chinese company manufacturing the vehicles. The Smart #1 is the first product of the JV.
Based on Geely’s modular SEA platform, the Smart #1 comes with a 66-kWh battery pack that is capable of 420 km to 440 km range based on the WLTP. AC charging is rated at 22 kW while DC charging is rated at 150 kW.
The electric SUV has a rear-mounted motor that makes 272 PS and 343 Nm. The EV is capable of a top speed of 180 km/h.
Measuring 4,270 x 1,822 x 1,636 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm, the Smart #1 which is just slightly smaller than the , however, the EV’s wheelbase is longer than even the .
Though sales for the Smart #1 started in China, the EV is gearing up for its launch in the European continent in early 2023. Other than that, Smart also has plans to market the Smart #1 in Malaysia and Thailand by the fourth quarter of 2023.
When the Smart #1 comes to Malaysia, the SUV will be the first EV that Proton will launch as the company has signed a General Distributorship Agreement (GDA) to sell and service Smart vehicles in our country as well as Thailand.
Smart EVs in Malaysia will be handled by Proton’s new distributor known as Proton New Energy Technology.
