Big British limousine teased in sporty new S guise ahead of full debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Bentley has teased what should be its most engaging four-door yet, with the all-new Bentley Flying Spur S super-limo set to be officially unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month.
Distinguished by a host of black exterior cladding, the new range-topping Bentley Flying Spur S also gets motorsport-inspired interior details and will be available with the choice of full-bore V8 petrol power (404kW/770Nm) or a hybrid powertrain; the latter of which will be a first for Bentley’s ‘S’ badge.
Delivering combined outputs of 400kW of power and 770Nm of torque, the hybrid Flying Spur S Hybrid is powered by a 2.9-litre turbo-petrol V6 mated to an electric motor, and is claimed to sprint to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds – 0.2sec quicker than the standard Flying Spur Hybrid (400kW/750Nm).
Meantime, the V8-powered Flying Spur S does the same in four seconds flat and goes on to a top speed of 305km/h, says Bentley.
Bothe new Flying Spur S flagships are headlined by a gloss-black grille, mirror caps, window surrounds, bumper inserts and more.
At the rear, the exhaust outlets have been darkened, while S badging on the front guards denote its sporty character.
Red brake callipers and gloss-black 22-inch wheels also feature, however, smaller 21s in a different design can also be optioned.
Inside, standard features include a mix of Dinamica and leather upholstery, fluted S-design sports seats, S embroidery, S treadplates and S fascia badging, plus motorsport-inspired driver display graphics.
However, only the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8-powered Flying Spur S brings improved dynamics, including electronic all-wheel steering and Bentley Dynamic Ride – an Audi-developed 48-volt active anti-roll bar system that can electronically reduce body roll during spirited cornering.
There’s also a redesigned sports exhaust for the V8 Flying Spur S.
Meanwhile, the Flying Spur S Hybrid will feature new synthesised exhaust enhancements that Bentley claims match the “more sporting character of the car for the driver while maintaining low sound levels in the rear cabin”.
Bentley says its new Flying Spur S sedan completes its driver-focused S range, “bringing extra dimensions of increased dynamic ability, dramatic visual presence and heightened aural drama”.
“This is the first time that our historic ‘S’ badge has been applied to a Hybrid product and is another step towards Beyond100, our vision of the future and sustainable pathway forwards,” said the British marque.
The Flying Spur S will join the recently revealed Continental GT S coupe and GTC S convertible and will make its world public debut at Goodwood over June 23-26.
