Popular diesel models phased out of Audi’s full-size performance SUV portfolio
Audi Australia has confirmed pricing and specification details for the 2022 Audi SQ7 and Audi SQ8, which move to petrol power for the first time.
The 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo diesel that has powered the full-size SUV duo until now will revert to a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo petrol when the updated SQ7 and SQ8 roll into showrooms over the next couple of months.
The move corresponds with an additional 53kW in power and a 130Nm reduction in torque, according to Audi, together with a faster 4.1-second 0-100km/h time (-0.7sec) and a thirstier 12.2L/100km fuel claim (versus 7.8L/100km in the diesel).

Pricing has likewise been revised as a result, moving to $164,400 plus on-road costs for the SQ7 (a $2900 increase) and $169,600 plus ORCs for the SQ8 (+$4100).
For reference, those prices compare with $160,900 plus ORCs for the BMW X5 M50i and $173,433 plus ORCs for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+.
Audi Australia justifies the pricing increase with additional standard equipment.
Audi SQ7
Mechanically, both Audi models are fitted with all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension, and are once again offered with an optional Dynamic Package (price TBA) offering a quattro sport differential and electromechanical active roll stabilisation.
Other standard features include 22-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights with dynamic rear indicators, a panoramic sunroof, privacy glass and power-assisted doors.

The pair also features the Audi virtual cockpit, Audi connect plus, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 17-speaker audio system.

Audi says the pair boasts a multitude of advanced driver assistance safety systems as standard, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and traffic jam assist, Audi pre-sense front and pre-sense rear (autonomous emergency braking), and Audi active lane, side and cross traffic assist.
