- Mahindra Scorpio with massive 26-inch wheels
- The set-up costs lakhs of rupees
- But there can be downsides as well
The love for alloy wheels in the state of Punjab is no secret. Many contemplate getting 20-inch rims because of the road conditions in India. The owner of this Mahindra Scorpio has installed massive 26-inch rims on the Mahindra Scorpio. A brave decision, we must say.
Modifications were done to fit the tyres
The video by Speedy Singh shows the installation process as well. The Scorpio offers 16-inch stock alloy wheels. The new wheels are 10-inches bigger! To accommodate the new wheels, the mechanics have made a few changes in the vehicle.
The Scorpio now rides on a 2-inch lift kit. The mud flaps were removed while there are changes in the alignment of the shock absorber as well. The Scorpio gets a different camber to support the wheels.
The owner of the Mahindra Scorpio wanted to install 28-inch tyres at first! He settled down for the 26-inches after the shop owner told him that big size can cause problems.
The alloys get low-profile tyres of 295/30 R26 size. There are LED light rings positioned behind the wheels to give a neon effect.
What is the cost of this set-up?

The alloy wheels cost a lot. Since these are not branded ones, the cost of these massive 26-inch wheels is Rs 2.5 lakh for four. Each tyre costs Rs 40,000 so an additional Rs 1.6 lakh. For fitting the wheels and alterations, the shop charged about Rs 18,000. The cost is roughly Rs 4 lakh for 26-inch wheels. High-quality branded alloy wheels of standard size come with a similar price tag and they are much more reliable.
What are the downsides?
Thanks to the bigger rims, the overall ground clearance has increased considerably
Since these are not branded alloy wheels, they can be really brittle and break or crack open. That is why one needs to be very careful while driving over the potholes. Even OEM 17-inch wheels supplied with the likes of Toyota Innova and Ford EcoSport caused problems due to the road condition in India.
Have you ever seen 26-inch wheels on an SUV?
These 26-inch wheels will definitely create a lot of problems. Also, there is no space for the suspension system to work and with the low-profile tyres, the comfort will go for a toss.
Bigger tyres also create handling issues and the turning radius increases by a lot since the wheels cannot turn completely. On the positive side, this is the only Mahindra Scorpio in India with such massive tyres and such vehicles do get a lot of attention.
