Jake Dixon and the GasGas Aspar team celebrate at Assen
Izan Guevara will remain with GasGas Aspar in 2024
Jake Dixon will remain in the Moto2 World Championship next year after signing a new deal with the GasGas Aspar team.
The Brit had been linked with a MotoGP move in 2024, with Dixon one of several names listed as a possible teammate for Alex Marquez at Gresini Racing.
Another candidate, fellow Moto2 racer Tony Arbolino also confirmed that he’s staying with Marc VDS in Moto2 earlier this week. It’s likely Pedro Acosta will be the only rookie in MotoGP next year, should KTM find room for the talented Moto2 championship leader.
“We’ve had almost two incredible seasons together so far so I’m really excited to stay with GASGAS Aspar Team for another year,” Dixon said. “We both have goals, for the remainder of 2023 but then also full-on for ’24. We’ve regularly been in the running for podiums and wins and we’re 3rd in the championship at the moment, so I feel like I am in a strong place and the right place.”
Dixon is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in the intermediate class having clinched his maiden Grand Prix victory at Assen. The former BSB racer is third in the championship, 59 points behind Acosta.
Alongside his victory at Assen, Dixon has taken podiums at Termas de Rio Hondo, Mugello and the Sachsenring. Dixon’s British Grand Prix dreams came to an end following a controversial incident with Darryn Binder.
Aspar teammate Izan Guevara will also remain with the team in 2024. The 2022 Moto3 World Champion is starting to make progress in Moto2 after struggling with a wrist injury at the start of the year and bagged his first points at the Red Bull Ring last weekend.
“Again, we have a great team for 2024,” team boss Jorge Martinez said. “We’re happy that we can count on Jake Dixon once more for the GASGAS Aspar Team next season and we’re aware that we still haven’t reached the limits of our potential together.
“We’ve taken Jake’s first win, and the working relationship is really good; we know what he needs and how we can help him. The rider has 100% trust in his team and his group, and I know we’ll fight for the world championship next year.
“With Jake and with Izan, who is progressing nicely in Moto2 and had his first points in Austria, we’ll chase everything we can in 2024. We are starting to see sparks in Izan that we know well, and we saw to such powerful effect in FIM JuniorGP and in Moto3, and we’ll see his possibilities very soon.”
