Mitsubishi is recalling 3,903 of its newest Outlanders in Canada because on certain 2022 Outlanders, the fuel pump could fail, causing the engine to stall while driving, Transport Canada says.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) lists another 16,616 potentially affected units south of the border, noting “the commutator and wires inside the fuel pump may be fused incorrectly, potentially causing the fuel pump to fail.”
The Safety Recall Report goes on to claim, “as a result, the commutator and the brushes in the fuel pump could wear abnormally in use, causing the fuel pump to be inoperative. If this occurs, the engine may stall while driving or cannot be started.”
According to Autoblog , Mitsubishi explained not all SUVs are equipped with the faulty pump — roughly one per cent of vehicles are affected — but to be on the safe side, the company is recalling all of those built between February 8, 2021; and October 12, 2021.
Mitsubishi will be notifying affected owners by mail, and then further instructing owners to take the vehicle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump, free of charge.
