Is it because of Ferrari's strategy?
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team boss Toto Wolff is selling his immaculate Ferrari F40 in the UK after a complete overhaul to maintain its perfect condition.
This particular F40 was one of 27 delivered new to Spain and one of 1,315 produced globally. It's offered for sale through Tom Hartley Jnr after a complete overhaul by Autofficina Bonini Carlo S.R.L, an official Ferrari retailer and famed restorer of classics.
The car will be sold with the all-important Ferrari Classiche Red Book, which confirms that everything matches. It still has the original chassis, body, engine, and gearbox. Tom Hartley JNR says the price is available on application, but it will likely sell for well above a million dollars. It's one of the cleanest examples we've ever seen. Disappointingly, it only has 3,440 miles on the clock, but that's likely the reason why Wolff is getting rid of it.
Wolff is a well-known car lover and collector and sold several iconic cars in 2021.
The last time Wolff cleared his garage, he sold a Mercedes-Benz AMG SL 65 Black Series, a Ferrari Enzo, and Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta. The fact that Wolff was allowed to order his LaFerrari Aperta straight from the factory is telling. That car was sold by invite only, and Ferrari only chose 210 of its most esteemed customers.
Why is Wolff selling all of these beloved cars? When he sold cars in 2021, he was on record saying, “I don’t get to drive the cars anymore. I don’t have enough time.” He also admitted that it “[doesn't look] particularly good if I would be cruising around with a Ferrari although [they’re] a fantastic brand.”
As an ex-racer, we can only imagine how sad it must be to see these cars standing in a garage and not having time to drive them. Wolff's time is no more limited than ever before, with 23 F1 races scheduled for the 2023 season.
These days, he spends most of his commuting time in a private jet, but he previously admitted to “going electric with Mercedes” and likely pilots an EQS Sedan in his spare time.

Wolff is not only the CEO of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 but also owns 33% of it. He was an early investor in several internet and technology companies and currently owns 14.5 million shares in Aston Martin, which is roughly 0.85%.
