BMW M commemorates a remarkable milestone today. On this day, 50 years ago, BMW Motorsport GmbH officially partnered with BMW, and since then, the division has delivered some of the most impactful and cherished nameplates to date.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, BMW M has announced that it will be developing limited-edition models of the BMW M3 and M4. These limited edition units will be known as the M 50 Jahre Editions. BMW seeks to provide unique configurations of one of its most esteemed model offerings. The 50 Jahre Editions allow customers to configure their vehicles, allowing for an end product that “reflects the personal style of its owner.”

The limited-edition models are outfitted with the same S58B30 motor found in M3 Competition and M4 Competition models. The high-revving in-line six powerplant produces 375 kW and 650 N.m. The special edition models will also come in a variety of drivetrain configurations which are dependent on the model variant. The options range from a six-speed manual to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with the Drivelogic system. Some models will feature a rear-wheel-drive power delivery system or a four-wheel-drive setup paired with the M xDrive system.

The 50 Jahre Edition models will be available in some of the most iconic BMW colors, from San Marino Blue to Imola Red, paired with a set of M-forged double-spoke wheels which are finished in complementary colours to the exterior paint. Europe and other regions will see colours such as Macao Blue, Carbon Black, Brands Hatch Grey, and many more. These European spec editions will be outfitted with a pair of M-forged double-spoke wheels finished in Orbit Grey Matte or Gold Bronze Matte. The Chinese market will see a similar number of limited edition M4 Coupe with special exterior paint finish options such as Fire Orange and Stratus Grey to honor the Chinese Year of the Tiger.

US and Canadian markets will see the sale of the 500 limited edition M3 models coupled with exclusive paint finishes from Interlagos Blue to Vermillion Red. These models will also come equipped with BMW M Performance Parts, which include a carbon front splitter, M Performance carbon rear spoiler, and M Performance tailpipe carbon trims.

The interior of every limited-edition model features slight aesthetic changes such as a door sills with the words “ Edition 50 Jar BMW M”, and a plaque on the centre console with the same lettering found on the door sills, M carbon bucket seats with the corresponding imprint on the headrests. The 500 US/Canadian M3s will feature the edition 50 lettering on the door sills, as well as the metal plaque on the centre console, and has the inscription of the edition 50 lettering including the model unit number. These models also feature an exclusive seam pattern on the M sport seats.
Locally, we will be receiving just 5 50 Jahre Edition M4s, all finished in San Marino Blue. Pricing has yet to be announced.
