Last week a 3 Series Facelift wearing M Performance parts was spotted by spy photographers. This week, in a similar setting, a mildly camouflaged model that could very well be the facelifted M340i Sedan wearing an M Performance rear wing was spotted.

The G20 BMW 3 Series has already been on the market for over three years and although it may not feel like it needs a refresh, the D-sedan segment is ever-evolving and the Bavarian is due for its upgrade. Positioned in BMW’s portfolio beneath the all-out M models will once again be the dependable M340i xDrive.

The front grille and rear exhaust outlets are a dead giveaway as to what the model really is, but the M Performance rear wing spied on the back of the sedan is what makes this one particularly special. The design first featured in late 2020 on the M3 and M4 with other M Performance parts including a centre mounted four-pipe exhaust system that split opinion in light of its controversially similar design to that of the Lexus F models. The M340i retains its conventional and symmetrical twin exhaust outlet that is well integrated into the rest of the bumper.

The spied model also includes side mirror capes, a front spoiler lip mounted underneath a novel bumper as well as sleeker looking LED headlights. Most importantly, the impsing nostrils of the M3 and M4 have not been adopted in this facelift.

The moving vehicle meant that no interior photos could be snapped up, however it is evident that the upper part of the dashboard has been redesigned. This is to accommodate BMW’s new iDrive 8 infotainment setup in the mid-cycle update that will include a pair of screens within one glass housing.
The 3 Series LCI should break cover later this year but we are still uncertain as to whether it and the M3 will be revealed in unison or separately.
