Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland
Harri Jones experienced the highs and lows of motorsport on the weekend, as he contested the latest round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.
Held at the Lausitzring in Northeast Germany, a strong field of 28 competitors were entered in the round, seven of which joined Jones in the Rookie Class.
Jones started the best of the lot in the first qualifying session, posting the sixth fastest time outright before dropping to fourth in the class for the second qualifying session and going 12th fastest overall.
The Queenslander then had a challenging run in the opening race of the weekend, crossing the line in 15th outright and sixth in the Rookie Class.
Not to be deterred, Jones bounced back in Sunday’s race to climb from 11th to fifth overall and claim the rookie class win.
Unfortunately, Jones received a post-race penalty which saw him lose the rookie win and drop down the order, as well as the standings.
Jones’ next event will be in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which will run at Zaandvort on 26-28 August as part of the Formula 1 World Championship, before returning to the Carrera Cup on 8-10 September for the round at Sachsenring.
FIA World Rallycross Championship
Molly Taylor has ticked off another round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as she continues to enjoy her debut year in the category.
Entered in the seventh round of the 2023 season at Estering in Germany, Taylor guided her #Yellowsqaud RX2e car to eighth and ninth respectively in the opening two heats on Saturday.
Chaos would then ensue in Sunday’s action as Taylor was turned into a wall twice and suffered big damage in heat three, before recovering in heat four to finish 10th.
Taylor went on to finish fifth in her semi-final, 11 seconds off winner and teammate Isak Sjökvist, but unfortunately missed out taking place in the round’s grand finale.
Overall, Taylor placed eighth for the weekend as she continued her progress.
The next round of the FIA World Rally Cross Championship will be in Cape Town, South Africa on 7-9 October.
GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS
Andrew Macpherson and William Porter have endured a difficult weekend in the GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS, which took place at Japan’s Okayama International Circuit.
With two races making up the penultimate round of the 2023 season, the two Aussies were unable to get much out of the AMAC Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R, having been unable to break the top 20 in any session of the round.
During both practice sessions, the duo’s fastest time saw them finish 28th on both occasions, while they ended in the same place during the first GT3 qualifying session before dropping down a place in race two qualifying.
Their weekend went from bad to worse in race one as they were only able to complete eight laps after Macpherson hit the fence during what was a highly interrupted opening stint of the 35-lap race.
Fortunately, the team was able to put the car back together for race two, where the duo managed to make up a handful of positions, crossing the line in 25th – their highest place for the weekend.
While the Aussie pair struggled outright, they still banked important points towards the AM title, however their race one DNF saw them lose ground on current class leaders, Hu Yuqi and Bian Hao, who ended the round with a win and runner-up finish.
With just one round remaining in the season, 33 points separate the two teams, with the final event to take place at Sepang International Circuit on 22-24 September.
