Really? Yet another BMW GS? Yes, it’s another BMW, and like a BMW, it’s quite expensive. It’s not just any Beemer though, it’s a Paris-Dakar R80G/S with only 3,400 miles on the clock.
After almost forty years, this G/S has only tracked 3,400 miles. Adventure bikes and dual-sport motorcycles are often seen with their odometers out of whack and into the stratosphere in terms of numbers. This, however, is an exceptionally special case.
With only 200 units ever produced, the Paris-Dakar edition commemorated the brand’s success in the (you guessed it) Paris-Dakar rally, one of the toughest and most grueling races to ever be organized. The R80 G/S was a cornerstone in the GS series of the German brand. At the time, it was a little spin on the standard boxer Beemers meant to go off the beaten path. Now, it’s an icon and it commands an exceedingly hefty price tag even for the latest and greatest R 1250 GS models.
The nameplate has evolved immensely over the course of its forty-year long history. BMW even had a few special models to commemorate the anniversary with the “Bumblebee” color scheme.
A total of three owners were able to get a hold of this bike. The current owner acquired the bike in February of 2016, having bought the bike from the second owner of only four months. That means that the first owner kept this machine around for over thirty years before turning it over.
Condition-wise, it’s received a service in 2020 which included a carburetor rebuild and adjustment. Along with that, the current owner replaced the ignition coil, voltage regulator, exhaust system, fuel lines, valve cover gaskets, battery, rear brake shoes, and final drive seal. The sale will include three keys, a rider’s manual, a factory tool kit, two spare seats, hard cases, and service receipts.
So, is it worth $35,000 USD? Well, that’s the current bid on the listing. You have about four days to prove that it is worth more than that. Bidding ends on Friday, December 3, 2021.
