Since the start of 2018, Lamborghini has sold a total of 16,000 Urus SUVs worldwide.
The company revealed this figure when it celebrated the four-year anniversary of its super SUV in December.
According to Lamborghini, the Urus kicked off the brand’s “greatest period of transformation” and is responsible for “unprecedented levels” of sales and profitability.
Record profitability
In its first year on the market, the positive reaction to the Urus was so significant that Lamborghini’s turnover grew by 40% – to €1.42 billion (R25.6 billion).
The following year, the company reached “record profitability” with an annual turnover of €1.81 billion (R32.6 billion), largely thanks to the continued success of the Urus.
In 2020, presumably due to the Covid-19 pandemic, turnover decreased to €1.61 billion (R29.02 billion).
“The overall growth in global sales is even more exceptional, reaching the record of 8,205 Lamborghini units delivered to clients (+43%) in 2019 – double the volumes achieved in the period before the arrival of the Urus,” said Lamborghini.
“In industrial terms, the Urus project has also led to the doubling of the Sant’Agata Bolognese production site, which grew from 80,000m² to 160,000m².”
In addition, Lamborghini hired over 700 full-time personnel to support the transformation period started by the Urus.
In its short lifespan, the Urus has become one of the best-selling and most important vehicles in Lamborghini’s history, with 85% of Urus customers being new to the brand.
Urus specs
The Lamborghini Urus is powered by a 4.0-litre, V8, twin-turbo engine that generates 478kW and 850Nm.
This produces impressive figures, such as a 0-100km/h time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h.
Standard air suspension and a drive-mode programme that incorporates six options – along with space for multiple passengers and a lot of luggage – provide the SUV versatility.
These features, said Lamborghini, allowed the Urus to overcome extreme challenges – such as setting a speed record of 298km/h on ice.
Pricing
The Lamborghini Urus is available in South Africa in multiple trims, with pricing as follows:
- Lamborghini Urus – R3,995,000
- Lamborghini Urus Pearl Capsule – R4,385,000
- Lamborghini Urus Graphite Capsule – R4,450,000
