Lamborghini Malaysia has brought the world of thunder and lightning into the Malaysian market with the official debut of its first HPEV (High-Performance Electrified Vehicle) hybrid super sports car, the Revuelto.
Back in March of this year, the Revuelto made its global debut and we actually joked about it not being in our driveway. Well, with this launch, it might not actually be a joke anymore.
Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini’s head of design, openly admits that the design of the Panigale superbike, produced by Lamborghini’s affiliated company Ducati, played a role in inspiring the design of the Revuelto.
The Revuelto boasts a remarkable array of features, including a wide selection of 70 different colour options. It showcases distinctive Y-shaped daytime running lights seamlessly integrated into the hood, while sizeable air intakes are positioned strategically behind the doors. Notably, the design incorporates substantial air channels on each side, which are aptly termed “aero wings” by Borkert. The engineering refinements extend to the air intake ducts leading to the cylinders, which have been reengineered to amplify air supply and ensure optimal airflow within the combustion chamber.
In terms of its wheels, the car offers versatility with various specifications. The front wheels come in a standard size of 20 x 9.5j, with an optional upgrade to 21 x 9.5j. Meanwhile, the rear wheels are available in a standard size of 21 x 12j, with an alternative option of 22 x 12.5j. As for the tyres, the front tyres are equipped with 265/35 ZR20 and the Potenza Sport Runflat, while an alternative choice is 265/30 ZR21 with Runflat. The rear tyres are 345/30 ZR21 with Potenza Sport Runflat as standard, and alternatively, there’s the option of 355/25 ZR22 with Runflat.
The braking system relies on the latest iteration of CCB Plus (Carbon Ceramic Brakes Plus), delivering exceptional stopping power. The front calipers feature a remarkable upgrade from six pistons to ten pistons, working in conjunction with larger 400x38mm discs (compared to the Aventador Ultimae’s previous ones).
The rear calipers, equipped with four pistons, complement 390x32mm discs (a step up from the previous 380x38mm). Notably, the discs are enveloped with a friction layer to enhance braking performance, temperature management, and acoustic comfort.
The rear engine cover offers a view of the V12 engine, adding an enticing visual element. The car also features centre-exit exhaust tailpipes, contributing to its distinctive appearance and sound. Furthermore, a dynamic aerodynamic rear wing is incorporated, further enhancing the vehicle’s aerodynamic properties.
The Revuelto takes the lead as the inaugural super sports car to feature a completely carbon fiber front structure, marking a substantial advancement over the Aventador in terms of torsional rigidity, lightweight attributes, and driving performance. Its single-body construction is notably 10% lighter than the Aventador’s chassis, and the front frame stands out by being 20% lighter than its previous aluminum counterpart.
The Revuelto incorporates three electric motors alongside its 6.5-liter V-12 mid-mounted engine. This setup includes two electric motors positioned on the front axle, enabling torque distribution for both power delivery and regenerative braking. Additionally, the third motor is seamlessly integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which is now situated behind the combustion engine.
In a departure from the Countach era, the conventional transmission tunnel has been substituted with a lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motors.
Its power is derived from a V-12 HPEV powertrain, delivering a remarkable combined maximum power of 1001hp, accompanied by a substantial torque output of 725Nm. The vehicle’s dynamic prowess is enhanced by its electric four-wheel drive system, comprising dual front and a single rear electric motors, working harmoniously with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Notably, the Revuelto incorporates four-wheel steering capabilities, further refining its agility.
Fueling this performance is a 3.8-kWh battery pack, which not only powers the vehicle but also facilitates electric torque vectoring, ensuring optimal traction and control. It has a top speed of 350km/h and an acceleration that propels it from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Its performance is further bolstered by a lightweight yet high-power lithium-ion battery, epitomizing the fusion of power and efficiency.
The Revuelto offers versatile recharging options, accommodating both regular domestic alternating current and higher-powered charging columns, with capabilities of up to seven kW in power. Remarkably, it achieves a full recharge in a mere 30 minutes. Additionally, the vehicle benefits from regenerative braking technology, enabling recharging from the front wheels or directly from the V12 engine, achieving a rapid recharge in as little as six minutes.
The innovative hybrid powertrain enables the optimization of electric motor assistance and introduces fresh driving modes, including an electric 4WD mode, offering an impressive total of 13 distinct driving experiences. Regrettably, it doesn’t include a “Malaysian Roads” driving mode that would adapt to the numerous potholes present on our roads.
The car features a comprehensive Human Machine Interface (HMI) system composed of a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, an 8.4-inch center display, and an additional 9.1-inch display. This new HMI setup offers an enhanced visual experience through 3D graphics, animations, widgets, and a contemporary design. Notably, the system introduces a more modern aesthetic. Furthermore, the vehicle includes the convenience of Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The design of the new steering wheel draws inspiration from the pilot-like sensation one can experience while steering a Squadra Corse race car.
The Revuelto marks a significant milestone as Lamborghini introduces a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for the first time. This system encompasses features such as Active Lane Departure Warning (ALDW), Lane Change Warning (LCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and an Auto Adaptive low beam function for the headlights.
Furthermore, personalizing the car’s interior is made possible by selecting a combination of leather and Corsa-Tex, offering a well-balanced mix, or choosing one material predominantly based on individual preferences.
Although the price is yet to be finalised by Lamborghini, the first two years of production are already fully booked. It is estimated to have a starting price of RM2.9 to RM3 million without taxes.
