The launch of the new Ranger ute and related Everest SUV was always going to generate a lot of interest from buyers, but it seems even Ford Australia has been taken by surprise.
While the new-gen Ranger was revealed in November last year and is expected to have its official launch in July, buyers are queuing up to get into one of the new-generation utes as soon as they can.
There are long waits for the regular Ranger as well as the off-road-focused Raptor variant.
It’s a similar story for its mechanical twin, the Everest SUV. Officially unveiled in March, the Everest will roll into showrooms after the Ranger, but there are significant pre-orders and long wait times on some grades.
A Ford Australia spokesperson said the company was doing “everything possible” to ensure delivery of the Ranger and Everest in a timely manner, but global issues were having an impact.
“Global semi-conductor and COVID-related supply chain challenges, combined with very high demand for certain variants, mean some customers will unfortunately face extended waits,” they said in a statement.
The Blue Oval said that since the reveal of these key models, Ford dealers have taken more than 19,000 pre-orders, which includes 4000 for the Everest, leaving the remaining 13,000 orders for the regular Ranger ute.
Ford says it is working around the clock with global colleagues to get vehicles on Australian soil, adding that Ford and its local dealer network will “continue to share regular status updates with customers, and notify them personally when their vehicle is built, in-transit, and ready for delivery”.
But precisely how long will you have to wait if you order a new-gen model now?
If you’re keen on a hardcore Ranger Raptor, Ford says delivery could taken nine months if you order one today.
A Ranger Wildtrak with Ford’s 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine will take approximately eight months to be delivered, according to Ford.
While the flagship Platinum version of the Everest – priced at $77,690 before on-road costs – has a wait time of seven months if ordered today.
Ford says there will be some stock available immediately following the launch, depending on the model grade, specifications, options, the dealer and delivery location.
As with the previous models, the new Ranger and Everest are both built at Ford’s Rayong factory in Thailand.
The Ranger is priced from $35,930 before on-roads, topping out at $84,490 for the Raptor.
The Everest ranges in price from $52,990 to $77,690.
