Men of a certain age lust after the silver-screen style of Steve McQueen – and may also have a hankering for a classic Ferrari. Well, those dreams are colliding in this iconic car coming up for auction in summer 2023: it’s the Hollywood actor’s own Prancing Horse.
Steve McQueen’s Ferrari 275 GTB/4 is going under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s sale at Monterey Car Week, where it’s estimated to fetch between $5-7 million (£4-5m).
The actor bought the Scaglietti-bodied Ferrari in rosso brand new in 1967 and kept it until the early 1970s.
It passed through various owners over the intervening years before being restored to factory-fresh condition by Ferrari Classiche between 2010 and 2013.
The Ferrari GT is one of the later examples of the 275 and comes in the long-nose body configuration. Even without its Hollywood connections, it is a fine example of the breed and has been exhibited at in Maranello’s Museo Ferrari and at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
