Texan tuner Hennessey Performance has launched the third iteration of its Venom F5 hypercar designed to perform on-track
Hennessey Performance has launched the F5 Venom Revolution, a track-focused variant to sit alongside the existing coupe and Roadster. Like the original, just 24 examples will be built, with each to cost its buyer from $2.7 million (c£2.2m), ten of which have already hit the road.
At its core remains the same sub-100kg carbonfibre monocoque chassis as its siblings, manufactured by UK-based Delta Motorsport. A variant of the firm’s twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre ‘Fury’ V8, now modified for ‘competitive use’, is mounted behind the passenger compartment, producing 1817bhp and 1193lb ft on E85 fuel.
Exact performance figures haven’t been disclosed, but its automated single-clutch transmission has been modified for track use, likely through the use of shorter ratios. Expect the 0-62mph time to drop below the 3sec barrier, and due to an increase in drag from its new aero devices, a lower top speed under the 300mph target of the standard F5.
Hennessey has also recalibrated its double-wishbone suspension with alignment settings more appropriate for track use; its dampers are also now adjustable trackside. Although a final weight figure hasn’t been revealed, the firm says it has brought its overall figure below the 1360kg of the coupe. This should raise its power-to-weight to over 1336bhp/ton, over twice that of the McLaren 765LT.
The most notable change for the F5 Revolution is its new aero setup, with a full-width, adjustable carbonfibre wing, enlarged carbonfibre splitter, extended rear diffuser and front dive planes that all contribute to up to 363kg of downforce at 186mph or 635kg at 249mph.
Behind wider forged wheels (chosen for a larger contact patch) are carbon ceramic brakes, plus there’s a new roof-mounted air intake designed to improve engine cooling. Digital track telemetry is now included to provide the driver with data such as lap times, splits and cornering forces both real-time and for analysis after the fact.
Chief engineer John Heinricy, previously responsible for models such as the Corvette Z06 and Cadillac CTS-V, said: 'From the outset, we designed the Venom F5 hypercar to be ultra-light and monstrously powerful, with dynamics to match. So, taking these ingredients and adding track-focused aerodynamics, suspension, and gearing, enabled us to create a machine that is the ultimate visceral and emotional driving experience.'
The Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution costs from $2.7 million (c£2.2m), and some of the 24 examples have already been accounted for.
