Many businesses are lending a helping hand to frontline workers in our nation’s battle against coronavirus. Keeping these essential people mobile is imperative, and so companies like The AA are offering free roadside assistance. Halfords is also doing its bit by carrying out free car and bike checks for emergency workers.
Staff from the NHS and other emergency workers can take their car to a Halfords Autocentre for a free 10-point check to ensure their vehicle is in the best of health. The checks include tyre pressure top-ups, oil level and brake light checks, a headlight test as well as a check on your cars screen wash. These test usually cost £15, but will be offered free of charge to those who qualify. Simply show your emergency worker staff ID to take advantage.
If you’re an emergency worker who cycles, most Halfords stores will provide a free Bronze Bike Service that usually costs £30. Lubricating the running gear, making sure gears are aligned correctly, and brake testing is all part of the package.
Graham Stapleton, Halfords CEO, said: ‘Our research shows how vital their cars and bikes are in getting to and from work, so we want to do our bit and help the extraordinary people who are doing an incredibly trying job at the most difficult of times.’
Car manufacturers are also helping NHS motorists with Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Vauxhall providing free breakdown assistance and taxi rides. While this is traditionally offered to new car buyers, the PSA Group brands will assist a car of any age. Another helpful contributor is MG which is supplying the NHS with 100 electric vehicles for 6 months.
Halfords are the latest to join this national effort, something that must be commended.
