Photo: GT4 America GT4 racing will again feature on the national stage in 2024, but this time as a standalone category.
A property of the SRO Motorsport Group, the category will be known as the GT4 Australia Series and will feature a vast range of value-for-money cars, which will be managed by Balance of Performance (BoP) to ensure an even-playing field for all competing brands.
It will also take part exclusively on the Shannons SpeedSeries calendar.
SRO launched in 2007 and has developed many successfully run GT racing categories in its time, with more than 300 cars racing across its 20 promoted or licensed series around the world.
In 2024, it will launch its standalone GT4 category into the Shannons SpeedSeries with six thrilling rounds, kicking off at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in April.
Shell V-Power Motorsport Park will host the second round in May before the category heads north to Queensland Raceway for round three.
While an exact location for round four has yet to be confirmed, the season will conclude with two rounds in New South Wales, starting off with Sydney Motorsport Park before the grand finale at the world-famous Mount Panorama in November.
SRO Motorsports Group Founder and Global CEO, Stephane Ratel, sees GT4 as a vital piece in the growth of GT racing within Australia and will implement a similar philosophy as overseas categories.
“SRO are very excited to enter GT4 Australia into the Australian Motorsport market as a stand-alone category for the first time in 2024,” Ratel said.
“We see GT4 as a vital piece in the growth of GT Racing throughout Australia as we plan on building GT Racing in Australia as we have globally.
“GT4 globally is a category designed for both semi-professional and young aspiring professional drivers which is why we will be implementing the same philosophy in Australia.”
Motorsport Australia’s Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith was looking forward to seeing the growth of GT4 as a standalone category in Australia from 2024.
“It’s going to be an exciting year for GT4 in Australia, with a new standalone series in 2024 part of the Shannons SpeedSeries suite of categories,” Smith said.
“We’ve already seen its potential this year and it has certainly proven to be a popular category. We look forward to seeing it grow further under SRO’s leadership as a standalone series as part of a broader global GT platform.”
