Just when the ridicule Toyota received for putting the superb BMW B58 in-line six motor into their Supra has subsided, murmurs that the GRMN Supra would employ a Bavarian powerhouse once again might spark a resurgence of flak amongst the auto community.

Except this time, the rumours state that it might come with the M3 and M4 powertrain which can allegedly produce as much as 397 kW in the Japanese coupe. That might soften the blow for some hard-done petrolheads who haven’t yet experienced the MkV Supra in all its glory.

According to Japanese scoop site Spyder7, the Gazoo Racing, tuned by the Meister of the Nürburgring (GRMN) model will be exclusively coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that will power the rear wheels with an all-wheel drive derivative, a possible option too.

The GRMN Supra will also boast cosmetic updates such as a bonnet scoop which shares a functional engine cooling use over and above its aesthetic differentiation. The front end is also expected to go under the knife for a more aggressive look. In a bid to save weight, the roof and rear spoiler will allegedly be made in carbon fibre like that of the GRMN Yaris sibling.
According to the rumour, the cost of the GRMN Supra is expected to be around ¥10 M or around R1,1 M if converted to local currency.
