Irmscher has made the retro-styled minivan even more appealing.
Irmscher, a German tuner known for its hotted-up Opel vehicles, has turned its attention to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, Wolfsburg's new electric minivan. The cheeky styling is undoubtedly appealing, but it certainly can't be described as sporty or aggressive – it was designed to be the opposite, in fact.
But for the select few who want a more athletic-looking family hauler, Irmscher's accessories will appeal. The front end gains a prominent lip spoiler that provides the ID. Buzz with a muscular, squared-off look. It works exceptionally well with the honeycomb effect grille seen on the lower elements of the fascia. The friendly smile usually seen on the minivan has been turned into a mischievous grin with the addition of this simple component.
On either side of the vehicle, you'll find matching side skirts that mimic the design of the front lip. Coupled with the discreet rear bumper, the ID. Buzz appears to sit lower to the ground than usual.
Irmscher has topped everything off with a roof-mounted spoiler, Imrscher badging, and color-coded decals. The tuner is keen to point out that these aftermarket parts aren't just there for show. The company has tested every piece for pedestrian protection. All parts were also subjected to wind tunnel tests, presumably to ensure they kept the EV's range intact.
The flashy-looking 20-inch “twisted double spoke” wheels will be offered in various finishes, including the “Exclusiv” diamond polished design (pictured above) or the more discreet black finish (seen below). An orange pinstripe shown on one of the models suggests the wheels can be customized by clients. Irmscher will also offer other wheel options from its extensive catalog. Delightfully retro white wall tires have also been previewed.
Irmscher claims the handling has been improved with a new spring set, which lowers the vehicle by 1.18 inches. Hopefully, this doesn't affect the vehicle's practicality.
The inspiration behind this racy-looking fan comes from Irmscher's desire to make the ID. Buzz even “hipper.” The company says that, with its enhancements, the VW's electric van is more than just a “reinterpretation of a hippie vehicle.”
Part of the ID. Buzz's appeal comes from its styling, which leans heavily on VW's past. Essentially a modern reboot of the much-loved T2, the battery-powered bus is trying to show the world that minivans can be cool – it's certainly a lot more exciting than a Sienna, that's for sure.
Unfortunately, Imrscher has not detailed any performance modifications, so we're guessing the upgrades are limited to the exterior and suspension. Thankfully, the US-spec ID. Buzz (revealed earlier this week) will be offered with as much as 330 horsepower and all-wheel drive, which should make for swift and silent progress.
