Here’s the biggest hint at Genesis’ future electric cars we’ve had yet. The X Speedium Coupe was revealed at Genesis House in New York, the brand’s ‘cultural home’ in the US on 13 April.
The Speedium is an evolution of the Genesis X Concept, first shown in March 2021. However, Genesis tells us it isn’t a conventional concept car that previews plans for the production lineup. The Korean brand says it merely hints at Genesis’ transformation towards becoming an all-electric car manufacturer with a six-model lineup by 2030.
Genesis Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, said: ‘This car is an open-door moment in Genesis’ journey towards our future EV design. This isn’t a show car — it’s a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.’
The Speedium name is inspired by the Korean racetrack in the city of Inje.
What about the design?
According to Genesis, it embodies a timeless ‘design philosophy’ and an ‘athletic elegance.’ At the front there’s a full-width element that encompasses the shape of the Genesis crest grille.
From an overhead perspective, there’s an hourglass silhouette and curvaceous wheel arches that of course make it look muscular.
Viewed from the side, it’s almost a shooting-brake like. Meanwhile, at the back there are convex and concave surfaces with V-shaped brake lights.
Donckerwolke added: ‘We are giving each design element space to breathe. It’s not about making the design elements compete with each other, but about orchestrating the elements so that they complement and respect one another.’
Anything else?
Genesis also used this opportunity to announce the electric GV70 will start production in Alabama, USA, in December.
