Genesis has announced that the GV60, the brand’s first electric car, will be coming to Europe with pre-orders opening soon.
The GV60 is the sixth model in Genesis’ European line-up and the first dedicated electric car – rather than a hybrid or ICE model adapted for an electric-only drive.
Genesis, of course, started out as the luxury sub-brand of Korean automaker Hyundai but has shifted in recent years to focus more on hybrid and electric cars.
The GV60 is based on the company’s Electric-Global Modular Platform, mercifully known as e-GMP for short, and allows up to 321 miles of range with the most expensive Premium model.
That Premium model has a single 168 kW motor and is “focused on range capability,” according to Genesis.
The cheaper Sport and Sport Plus models come with all-wheel drive. The Sport gets 160 kW and 74 kW motors, while the Sport Plus gets 160 kW motors on the front and rear axles.
The Sport Plus also offers unique Drift Mode and Boost Modes which give a 10-second power boost of an extra 20 kW on both axles and give the “most dynamic GV60 experience” – just what you need in a four-door electric crossover SUV.
The GV60 also comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and wireless phone charging. Optional extras include heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, and digital rear-view side mirrors.
Genesis only started offering cars in Europe last summer, with the G80 and G70 saloons and the GV80 and GV70 SUVs being the first models on offer. The G70 Shooting Brake became available in November last year.
The GV60, however, won’t be the only electric car Genesis offers this year with three further electron-powered cars are in the works. By 2025, meanwhile, Genesis is promising that all new cars launched will be all-electric, while hybrid and internal combustion engine cars will be gone by 2030. The company overall is promising to be carbon net-zero by 2035.
Further information on pricing, specifications, and pre-ordering will be released “in due course.”
