Genesis has today revealed the GV60 – the company’s first electric vehicle based on a dedicated EV platform, rather than a repurposed chassis from an ICE car.
At present, we’ve only got images of the car and its interior to go on – there’s no pricing, availability, or spec information out at the moment. But, you only get one chance to make a first impression and the GV60 has certainly made a good one.
The GV60 is a smart-looking small SUV based on the company’s E-GMP or Electric-Global Modular Platform. We can expect more E-GMP models to join the GV60’s party soon as the GV60 is set to be the entry-level model.
Anyway, back to the looks, we’re getting touches of Citroen C4 Cactus around the front. Genesis says that the design is “optimised exclusively for the electric vehicle” with “iconic and progressive Two-Line Quad Lamps” that “add character to a refined and voluminous body.”
Eagle-eyed readers might also spot a new wing emblem on the grille – it’s apparently 80% thinner than the logo found on previous models.
You might also spot that Genesis has decided to bring the hood and the front fenders into one large panel. This, according to the company, is to make the GV60 seems sleeker. Digital side mirrors and pop-out electric door handles also help trim the car’s profile.
Round the back, we’re getting a bit of Mercedes GLC Coupe. The two-line rear brake lights “flow seamlessly with the voluminous three-dimensional body” and look pretty smart, in our opinion.
It also, a bit unusually, features a fixed rear spoiler – designed to hint further at the GV60’s performance credentials.
The interior design was based on the Genesis’ design ethos of the “Beauty of White Space,” apparently, and seeks to create a spacious and comfortable interior.
However, the most striking part of the cabin is the Crystal Sphere, a shift-by-wire gearstick stand-in that lets the driver know when the vehicle is ready to head off.
When the GV60 is turned off, for example, the Crystal Sphere becomes the vehicle’s mood lighting but, when you’re ready to set off, the Sphere disappears and your shift-by-wire controller emerges.
The GV60 also features a wide-screen interior control panel that manages your audio, video, navigation, and communications as well as large screens in place of wing mirrors.
While looks can be deceiving, the GV60 certainly looks like it could be a hit with buyers.
