► Genesis’ latest coupe at 2023 NY show
► SUV concept hints at future sporty models
► Design details from X Speedium
Genesis has taken to the 2023 New York motor show to reveal the GV80 Coupe Concept.
The new GV80 Coupe Concept introduces design details first seen on the X Speedium Coupe concept. The brand’s evolved two-line light structure are present and correct front and rear, as well as a whale tail-like rear end and, obviously, a coupe-like roofline.
The Korean luxury brand says the new concept is designed as a ‘statement of intent for the future, hinting towards more emotional and performance-oriented models.’ This corroborates with our earlier report that Genesis is working on fleshing out its future pure-electric offerings with a grand touring flagship.
Genesis says the GV80 Coupe Concept uses a rear-wheel drive platform – in keeping with the brand’s efforts to build something at least slightly sportier than their current offerings – but no performance specs are given.
In order to emphasise that supposed sportiness, the GV80 Coupe Concept is finished in a wild Magma orange paintwork with some satin grey details. The cockpit includes four bucket seats and a G-Matrix strut brace for extra rigidity.
While this is just a concept for now, it makes sense for Genesis to investigate entering the coupe-SUV space. If a production model were to arrive, it would need to take on the BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Coupe, Audi Q8 and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
