The all-new Genesis GV60 electric car is almost ready for launch here in Australia, and will do so in September starting at $103,700 before on-road costs.
It’ll be the first of an ‘EV trio’ to come down under this year, leading the way for the Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70.
Two variants of the GV60 will be available from launch and both will be all-wheel drive. The two grades share their basic dual-motor setups but provide a choice of 234kW, or, for $7000 more, 360kW.

Both grades include premium features like a 17-speaker Bang and Olufsen stereo, nappa leather upholstery and large alloy wheels that start at 20 inches in diameter.
A midsize luxury hatchback-SUV crossover, the GV60 is about $27,000 more expensive than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with which it shares a platform, and is around $16,000 dearer than a top-end Kia EV6 – though it undercuts the BMW iX3 by $11,000.

A quicker AWD Performance grade will set buyers back $110,700, but pace takes a significant step up with the top-end GV60 running a 360kW/700Nm tune from the same dual-motor powertrain setup as the base car.
Both variants will have a 77.4kWh battery pack installed that will feed power to the onboard electric motors.
The Genesis GV60 is built upon the same E-GMP platform as the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it will compete with more luxury focused electric cars such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Polestar 2 and upcoming Tesla Model Y.

Powertrain, performance and battery range
Based on the Genesis–Hyundai–Kia E-GMP electric vehicle architecture, the GV60 shares its battery and motor hardware with AWD versions of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Entry-level grades, simply dubbed AWD, make 234kW of power and 605Nm of torque in combination from their motors, while the $110,700 AWD Performance model turns up the dial to 360kW/700Nm. In both cases, the rear motor is the stronger of the pair.
Both variants utilise the same 77.4kWh usable lithium-ion battery with only a slight difference in range based on specification. The AWD is rated to provide 470km range (WLTP) while the AWD Performance officially scores 466km (WLTP).

While these two variants are AWD, Genesis says that drivers can switch between all-paw traction and rear-wheel drive (RWD) at the touch of a button thanks to a disconnecting actuator that can separate the electric motor from the drive shaft.
A boost mode is also available in the Performance model that activates additional performance from the electric motors for up to 10 seconds and helps the GV60 AWD Performance hit 100km/h in four seconds. Without boost, the GV60 will do the same sprint in 4.6 seconds.
Active sound design has been incorporated into the Genesis GV60’s driving experience and offers the driver three unique sounds: Futuristic sound, engine-like sound and e-motor sound.

Charging the new Genesis GV60
The onboard charging system in the Genesis GV60 allows up to 800-volt rapid charging, but when connected to a 350kW ultra-rapid DC charger, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. A complete charge would take approximately 90 minutes on a more common 50kW fast DC charger.
At home or work, charging speeds depend on your setup. A three-phase 11kW AC wallbox charger allows a full recharge to be completed in 7 hours. The same charge would take 11 hours from a single-phase 7kW AC wallbox, but charging from a three-pin wall socket would take 38 hours.
Interior is definitely plush in typical Genesis style
Vehicle-to-load functions allow the GV60 to play the role of a mobile power source that can charge other electronic devices from its core battery.
According to Genesis, the GV60 is the first vehicle to feature a battery conditioning function that maintains the battery at the right temperature. The system can preheat the battery and keep it running at the right temperature if the air outside is cold, for example.

Both the AWD and AWD Performance variants feature a list of standard equipment including a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, navigation with augmented reality, a 17-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, wireless phone charging and three USB-C ports.
Also included are heated and nappa-leather trimmed front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, power tailgate, 18-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and dual-zone climate control.
On the exterior of the GV60, 20-inch alloy wheels are standard, as are flush power door handles, full LED headlights, power sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, rear privacy glass and an active air flap.
Stepping up to the AWD Performance, owners will gain all of the standard features as listed above plus a rear limited-slip differential, adaptive electronic control suspension, boost mode, black monobloc front brakes and 21-inch alloy wheels. Alloy pedals and metallic accents are found in the interior.

The Genesis GV60 includes a full safety suite that includes eight airbags, a blind-spot monitor, driver attention monitoring, forward collision assist with pedestrian, car and cyclist detection, junction turning function, evasive steering assist and high beam assist.
Also included with the GV60 is intelligent speed limit assist, lane-keep assist, lane follow assist, parking distance warning, multi-collision brake, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control and a surround-view monitor.

Servicing and warranty of the GV60
The Genesis GV60 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for the vehicle, an eight-year warranty for the battery, five years of complimentary servicing, five years of Genesis valet assist, 10 years of roadside assistance, 10 years of map updates and the choice of a five year chargefox subscription or a charger installation at your home. All of this comes at no extra cost and is included in the purchase price of the GV60.
