GV70 Genesis Electrified This is the name of the Korean luxury brand’s upcoming electric SUV, which was unveiled at the Guangzhou Motor Show in 2021. A new combustion engine-based model that will be sold in South Korea for the time being. Two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and plenty of gear
The Hyundai group’s premium brand has unveiled its second electric SUV, taking advantage of the fact that the Guangzhou 2021 Motor Show has opted to be open until the end of November. After extensive testing and an advance announcement just a few days ago, the new Genesis Electrified GV70 is now a reality.
Based on the combustion GV70, it does not alter significantly from the beginning model in terms of appearance, but all of the unique characteristics are retained. The only differences between the GV70 Electrified and the luxury electric saloon, the G80 Electrified, are the slim grille positioned in the center of the rear bumper, the lack of exhausts and trim strips, and the new closed front grille, which reproduces the characteristic ridge pattern and also houses the charging port battery.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 maintains its sleek and sporty design despite being electric
Inside, there are no radical modifications, retaining the combustion model’s basic dashboard, however the dashboard lining is presented in a new particular combination of the Electrified GV70 that has a lot to do with the purity and maximum sustainability it offers: a “Glacier White” branded interior. The main difference is that the rear seats have more space than the combustion model since the central tunnel has been lowered a few millimeters.
For the new electric GV70, the Koreans at Genesis have unveiled a single mechanical variant.
In theory, it’s equipped with two electric motors and all-wheel drive that produce a maximum power of 160 kW (217 hp), along with a slew of other features mentioned below. The system contains a «Boost» function that may dramatically enhance power and torque for a few seconds, as well as a large battery that powers the system and provides up to 500 kilometers of autonomy.
A strong sales presentation, as well as the advantages of this new GV70 Electrified’s charging mechanism, will help it to set itself apart from the competitors.
And it’s because, despite being a standard combustion platform converted for electric, the Koreans were able to install an on-board charger capable of withstanding 350 kW, allowing up to 80% of the battery to be recharged in under 20 minutes. A system that also includes «V2L» equipment for charging or supplying electrical current to devices.
South Koreans intend to put the cat in the water with this model, which will be offered in South Korea in theory starting in 2022, therefore the equipment is complex. For example, an electronic suspension that adjusts the settings depending on data from the navigation system and information from the front camera.
Intelligent regenerative braking, for example, is a feature that is dependent on driving style, real-time navigation data, and road conditions.
In addition to one or both electric motors, the Genesis GV70 Electrified may be operated with just one pedal, the accelerator pedal, giving it rear or integral traction. Because it is based on an operating strategy that evaluates the speed and driving mode to decide whether to connect or detach one of the electric motors, and therefore minimize battery power consumption, this feature is totally autonomous and does not require the driver’s intervention.
The interior of the new Genesis Electrified GV70 is presented in white, maximum efficiency color
