All-electric Genesis G80 large luxury sedan to be a $150K proposition when it arrives in third quarter
Genesis Australia has released first local details for the 2022 Genesis Electrified G80 ahead of the all-electric large luxury sedan’s launch in the third quarter of this year.
One of three new electric cars for the South Korean prestige brand to launch in the next few months, the Genesis G80 EV will join the 2022 Genesis Electrified GV70 mid-size SUV that arrives in July – and which we’ve just driven in pre-production prototype guise – as well as the Genesis Electrified GV60 small SUV.
According to the car-maker, the battery-electric Genesis G80 will be priced between $140,000 and $150,000 (plus on-road costs) when it arrives in local showrooms from July as a single high-spec dual-motor model.
That compares to the current price ceiling of $102,000 plus ORCs for the Genesis G80 3.5T AWD.
The twin-motor all-wheel drive powertrain in the Electrified G80 delivers maximum outputs of 272kW (136kW at each axle) and 700Nm, with Genesis promising a driving range of more than 500km from its large 87.2kWh lithium-ion battery.
It’s also capable of ultra-rapid 350kW fast-charging, replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in less than 25 minutes.
Multi-stage regenerative braking helps top up the battery while on the move, with an i-pedal enabling one-pedal driving.
The electric G80 will be readily identified by its enclosed ‘Crest’ grille, unique 19-inch wheels and redesigned front and rear bumpers for improved aero.
Aussie buyers will be offered a palette of eight standard exterior colours from which to choose, along with two matte paint options and an exclusive Matira Blue metallic hue.
There’s no panoramic sunroof option for the luxury limo, with every Electrified G80 sedan instead equipped with solar panels built into the roof for increased efficiency.
Inside, the Electrified G80 borrows tech from its combustion-engined counterparts, including a 14.5-inch central touch-screen with 3D maps and smartphone mirroring, a 21-speaker Lexicon sound system and an Ergo motion (massaging) seat for the driver.
Both front seats will be heated and ventilated, too, while outboard rear seats can also have their temperature raised.
Other headline items in the back seat include a touch-screen attached to the front head restraints that allow rear passengers to select their own climate control settings, adjust the ambient lighting or electric sun shade and watch movies via USB, just to name a few functions.
The G80 EV will come with locally-approved suspension components, rather than going through a complete bespoke suspension tuning program as seen with other Genesis and Hyundai models.
