This is what enthusiasts wanted the Bronco Sport to be.
Ford was spotted earlier this year testing a new prototype SUV based on the all-new Ranger truck platform. The 2023 Ford Ranger recently made its debut, so it won't be long before this aforementioned SUV is revealed. The SUV in question is the next-generation Ford Everest, a rugged body-on-frame SUV that's never been sold in the United States. Despite that, we are still excited to see what the new Everest will look like.
The wait for an official reveal won't be much longer as the first official teaser has arrived from the Ford Philippines YouTube channel. This teaser video shows a lightly camouflaged Everest, giving a much clearer look at the SUV than any previous spy shots.
The front end, perhaps unsurprisingly, shares a lot in common with the new Ranger. Both vehicles share a similar grille and headlight design, which makes sense because the two vehicles share a common architecture and will be assembled in the same factory. Ford has at least altered the bumper to differentiate the Everest from the Ranger.
We can tell this SUV is tougher than the similarly-sized Explorer we get here in the states based on its outstanding ground clearance. The video shows the Everest traversing some off-road courses, displaying the SUV's truck-based capability.
Under the hood, the Everest will share engine options with the Ranger, meaning a new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 diesel will replace the outgoing model's 3.2-liter inline-five. Lower trim models will use either one of two 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines, one including a single turbo and the other a twin-turbo setup, with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder gasoline engine available as well.
Buyers should have a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic. Ford didn't set a reveal date, but the Everest should make its debut in early 2022.
