With US deliveries of the highly anticipated Ford F-150 Lightning electric ute finally underway, the automotive icon has finally confirmed the price for the hardware which will be necessary for those wanting to power appliances or their homes with the truck during outages.
Ford has begun shipping the first F-150 Lightnings, starting with the Pro series, and for those hoping to make use of the vehicle’s Intelligent Backup Power feature – which is capable of powering homes during outages – two pieces of hardware are necessary: the Ford Charge Station Pro, and the Home Integration System.
The Ford Charge Station Pro is an 80-amp charging station that comes standard with all F-150 Lightnings with the Extended Range battery pack. Those buying only the Standard Range Lightning will need to cough up an extra $US1,310 for the home charging station.
Pricing for the Ford Charge Station Pro has been available for some time, now, but Ford’s head of charging and energy services, Matthew Stover, recently took to LinkedIn to reveal the pricing for the Ford Home Integration System.
This will be sold through the company’s preferred supplier Sunrun, and will cost a relatively sensible $US3,895 (not including installation costs).
“ If you want your truck to power your home during an outage, take advantage of Ford Intelligent Backup Power and get the Home Integration System that works with the Charge Station Pro,” wrote Stover.
The Home Integration System consists of an inverter, transfer switch, and a battery (details unspecified). “When the power goes out, the system automatically disconnects from the utility line and switches over to Ford Intelligent Backup Power so that the truck can send power to your house,” explained Stover.
“Going this route opens even more potential in the future, because this system will be utilized to enable another feature once it becomes available – Ford Intelligent Power. This will allow customers to power their homes with their truck’s battery when electricity rates are higher, potentially saving money and easing pressure on the grid.”
More than being able to power your home, the Ford F-150 Lightning recently received its final EPA-estimated range for its Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum variants in the US, ranging from 230-miles (370-kilometres) to 320-miles (515-kilometres), providing customers with some serious weekend-killing opportunities.
