If you’re a fan of do-it-yourself when it comes to your vehicle, Ford’s got you covered. The automaker has released blueprints of some parts of its new Maverick truck so that owners can 3D-print holders for accessories.
The Maverick comes with eight slots for FITS, for Ford Integrated Tether System. These let owners buy the accessories they want, such as extra cupholders, grocery bag holders, or bin dividers, and attach them using the slots, located at the back of the centre console and in the under-seat storage bins.
Ford has now released the files for owners to print their own mounts to go into the FITS receiver slots. The blueprints are just for the mounts, and some will then buy the accessories themselves from Ford, but of course there’s also a vast online network of people who have come up with their own designs for cubbies, cupholders, and more, and are sharing them with others.
FITS isn’t the only do-it-yourself part of the Maverick. The bed, which Ford calls the “Flexbed,” was also designed with the intention that owners could modify it to suit their needs — either with accessories from Ford, or with items from the hardware store. The bed includes a QR code that lets owners access instructions to build items such as bed dividers or bicycle racks.
