SHANGHAI: The latest from Ford seems ready to take on the world with its Ranger Wildtrak.
The flagship of the Ranger lineup is getting the latest 3.2-litre Duratorq turbo-diesel under the hood, allowing the 4×4 pickup truck to dish out 197bhp and 470Nm of torque – providing it with a towing capability of up to 3,500kg.
The five-cylinder diesel engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Wildtrak comes equipped with a host of smart features that include Sync 2 connectivity, lane keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, driver impairment monitor as well as front and rear parking sensors.
It’ll come equipped with a projector headlamps that flank the trapezoidal front grille while fog lamps reside at the bottom edges of the bumper to give the Wildtrak, as Ford puts it, that sports-focused and purposeful aggressive looks.
It rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels that try to fill those gaping wheel arches and it gets draped in your preference of either pride Orange or Cool White.
Inside, orange has been used to accent the car-like interior, which comes equipped with a dual-TFT instrument cluster, an eight-inch touchscreen and air conditioning registers.
The seats are accented with orange threaded piping with the driver getting one that’s power adjustable up to eight-ways.
In terms of in-car connectivity, Ford has installed the latest Sync 2 that comes with voice command to control climate and media controls.
For safety, the Wildtrak comes with both lane keeping alert and lane keeping aid as well as adaptive cruise control, adjustable speed limiter, forward alert, front and rear park assist and a rear-view camera.
In addition, there’s electronic stability control with rollover mitigation and trailer sway control, driver impairment monitor, hill launch assist, hill descent control, adaptive load control and emergency brake assistance.
The Wildtrak also comes with an electronically controlled transfer case, via a roundel within the cabin, allowing drivers to change from 4×2 to 4×4 high or 4×4 low on the fly.
