Ford Mondeo (2015 – present) | Expert Rating [hide]

    Summary

The Ford Mondeo is a large liftback, estate and saloon model. The current model arrived in the UK in early 2015, and was most recently updated in early 2019.

The Mondeo has received generally positive scores from the UK motoring media, although scores have been falling in recent years as newer rivals have come onto the scene. The hybrid version also doesn’t score as well as the rest of the range, which has dragged down the Mondeo’s overall rating.

The Ford Mondeo has received praise for its comfort, refinement and equipment levels. However, it has been criticised for interior quality and infotainment systems that are not up to the levels of some rivals.

When it comes to reliability, the news is certainly better. In a 2020 What Car? survey of the 50 most reliable cars in the UK up to eight years old, the Ford Mondeo ranked equal 24th. Unlike many other vehicles, where diesel engines were problematic, the Mondeo’s ranking applied equally to both petrol and diesel models.

Like many large saloon and estate vehicles, Mondeo sales have strugged in recent years as buyers have switched to SUV models. As a result, Ford has anounced that the Mondeo range will be discontinued from early 2022.

The Ford Mondeo has not yet been lab tested by Green NCAP. This is a new initiative, launched in 2018 as a sister organisation to Euro NCAP. As yet, very few new cars have been tested for environmental impact by Green NCAP, and the testing programme was halted in early 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic.

Given that the Mondeo is reaching the end of it’s life, it’s unlikely to ever be put through the Green NCAP lab testing programme. But if it happens, we’ll publish the results here.
