Ford's 7.3-liter naturally aspirated V-8 just got even better.
FordAfter two years of waiting Ford finally revealed its “Megazilla” crate engine last week at a trade show event in Indianapolis. An upgraded version of its 7.3-liter “Godzilla” V-8, the Megazilla gets a handful of improvements inside and out to boost performance, with a claimed output of 615 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque.
Displacement has not been altered in the jump from Godzilla to Megazilla V-8, though most of the internals have been beefed up with stronger components. While the cast iron block and forged steel crankshaft are unchanged, there are forged H-beam connecting rods, Mahle forged pistons, and CNC-ported cylinder heads. On top of the engine you’ll find a Ford Performance low-profile intake manifold and the 92-millimeter throttle body from the Mustang Shelby GT500’s supercharged “Predator” V-8.

Peak power from the Megazilla comes in at 5800 rpm, while peak torque arrives at 3800 rpm. Ford also claims the engine can deliver over 500 lb-ft of torque from 2500 to 6000 rpm, meaning a steady torque curve as you travel through the rev range. A spokesperson told Road & Track via email the Megazilla is “intended to be easier to drop into car applications rather than just trucks.”
Ford says Megazilla V-8 crate engine will become available starting in the second quarter of 2023, though it has yet to release pricing. We expect it to be a fair bit more expensive than the $9175 Godzilla engine, considering all of the add-ons. If it’s any bit as impressive as the Godzilla at making power under load, we’re in for a good time.
