The Maverick, Ford’s newest and smallest pickup truck, packs many features into its compact frame: a clever interior, customizable cargo bed and a generous 37 mpg combined in Ford’s projected EPA rating from the standard hybrid drivetrain. It also accommodates budget-conscious truck shoppers with a price tag starting around $20,000, and the value proposition appears to be a desirable one: First, the Maverick Hybrid sold out for the 2022 model year. Now, Ford says it likely will cap orders for the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder by the end of January due to an inability to accommodate high demand.
According to the automaker, Thursday likely is the last day customers can place an order for the 2022 Maverick’s remaining EcoBoost models. Those who miss the cutoff will have to wait until the summer to order the 2023 Maverick (unless they can find an unclaimed one on a dealer lot). The optional EcoBoost engine, which makes 250 horsepower, is the only way to get the Maverick’s available all-wheel drive.
“There’s been overwhelming demand for [the] Maverick — both hybrid and EcoBoost,” wrote Dawn McKenzie, Ford truck communications manager, in an email to Cars.com. “We’re making the decision to stop taking new retail orders on the 2022 Ford Maverick starting after Jan. 27 to focus on existing orders. Customers may still be able to purchase a Maverick on the lot at their local Ford dealer. We’ll kick off ordering for the 2023 Maverick starting in the summer.”

McKenzie confirmed earlier that orders for the Maverick Hybrid were full in a Jan. 9 email to Cars.com, reiterating Ford’s expectation in October that the hybrid would be “fully reserved by early November.” It is unclear if disruptions from the ongoing inventory shortage contributed to Ford’s decision to also halt model-year 2022 Maverick EcoBoost orders.
The 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid starts at $21,490 (including a $1,495 destination charge); the EcoBoost option adds an additional $1,085. Shoppers can configure the 2022 Maverick EcoBoost on Ford’s website. Pricing for the 2023 model is not yet available.
