For a limited time period, Ford will be offering Malaysian buyers the option of an even better-appointed version of its Kuga mid-sized SUV. Dubbed the Ford Kuga Special Edition, this limited run model is priced at RM168,888 on-the-road with insurance, an increase of nearly RM9k from the regular Kuga Titanium.
Available in distinct Gingle Ale colour, the Kuga SE builds on the Titanium model’s already comprehensive equipment by adding on a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, electric seat adjustment, adaptive cruise control, multi-colour interior ambient lighting, active park assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
For the money, the extra equipment fitted represents impressive value, even if memories of our experience in the pre-launch drive held in Australia suggests that the 19-inch alloys don’t offer a similarly pliant ride quality that the 17-inch rollers fitted in the regular Titanium. The only notable absence in the equipment manifest continues to be the reverse camera, a feature becoming increasingly common within the Kuga’s price range.
Mechanically, the Kuga SE is unchanged from the Titanium model. Based on the C-platform shared with the Focus, the Kuga is powered by Ford’s 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine with 177hp and 240Nm. Drive goes to all wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. In reviews, we have stated the Kuga to be one of the best, if not outright finest, mid-sized SUVs in the aspect of driving enjoyment.
The Kuga Special Edition also comes with Ford’s Extended Service Plan (ESP) to provide added peace of mind to customers. The Ford ESP is a three-year or 60,000km maintenance programme that covers parts and labour free of charge. In addition to routine inspection and maintenance services, Ford’s ESP covers free replacements for selected wear-and-tear items, including spark plugs, shock absorbers, engine belts, brake pads, and wiper blades.
