Galloping into the Ford Bronco Sport lineup is a new option package which draws upon a very specific success of its full-size Bronco brother. For the upcoming model year, buyers will be able to layer a Black Diamond off-road package onto a couple of different trims of the Bronco Sport.
Priced at $1,695 in Canada and available on the Big Bend and Outer Banks series rigs, the new option will bring a host of gritty features such as a quartet of steel bash plates covering key 4×4 powertrain areas; unique 17-inch low-gloss aluminum wheels which look for all the world like old-school steelies; and 225/65 all-terrain tires. Those four skid plates offer protection to expensive gubbins such as the fuel tank and front underside areas.
Of course, many customers feel that no off-road package is worth its salt unless it is loudly announced, explaining why Ford has included a matte black hood graphic with small Bronco horse logo, plus lower bodyside graphics with “Bronco” lettering with this option. Both vinyls get a pattern which immediately reminds us of old-school diamond plating, surely not a coincidence.

Such visual addenda will pop nicely against the retina-searing paint choices favoured by this author, or blend invisibly with selections like Shadow Black. At present, both the Big Bend and Outer Banks trims are offered in Canada solely with the 1.5L EcoBoost turbocharged three-banger, making 181 horsepower and lashed to an eight-speed automatic.
Ford is also making plenty of noise about its decision to open the Bronco Off-Roadeo experiences to buyers of the Bronco Sport. The camps are located in four spots around America in typical off-road destinations – Moab and Texas, to name just two – and welcome new owners of these Blue Oval rigs to teach them how to eke the most out of their burly vehicles. All four Bronco Off-Roadeo experiences put drivers to the test across miles of curated trails over a day, while teaching them about the capabilities and performance of their new ride.

While pricing for ’23 models has not been officially released for our country, the 2022 Bronco Sport wore starting MSRPs of $38,899 and $42,899 for the Big Bend and Outer Banks, respectively. The new Bronco Sport Black Diamond off-road package is now available for ordering at Ford stores.
