The Speciality Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show kicks off today, and our first bit of coverage comes from Ford.
The Blue Oval approaced SEMA a little different this year with 10 unique vehicles built on their most popular nameplates: Bronco, Mustang and F-150, just to name a few. Ford accessories’ sales are up 40 percent from two years ago, and these units showcase the personalization possible through Ford Performance Parts and officially licensed addons. “We designed Ford vehicles to be easier to customize, with installation points and aftermarket accessories engineered from the start of the design process,” said Eric Cin, Ford global director, vehicle personalization, accessories, and licensing. “We work actively with the aftermarket to share our product designs so customers can personalize and put the finishing touches on their vehicle to make it all their own.” Here are some of the most noteworthy exhibits from this year’s show!
Bronco
We’re not even in the dead of winter yet and Ford is already dreaming of summer beach days with the Extreme Beach/Extreme Sports Support Bronco. Built by WARN Industries, this four-door Wildtrak model is built with a 270-degree awning, fishing rod box and an Indel B Refrigerator. There’s also a WARN winch and a DANA D60 axle with 5.38 gearing.
The Bronco Service Unit Vehicle is up next, put together by ARB. Also starting life as an Oxford White Wildtrak, this one gathers inspiration from the rugged medical services vehicles of the early 1900’s, but with a modern twist. Tube doors, jack mount, winch, light bar and even an underhood air compressor help put this Bronco anywhere it’s needed for duty.
The Bronco Off-Roading Performance model was built by the SEMA Businesswomen’s Network. This model (another Wildtrak) comes outfitted with 4.70 gearing on both axles, a WARN winch, ARB rear-mounted jack, and special Ford tuning. There’s also a Yakima two-person tent for those overnight off-roading sessions. A team of over 250 women from diverse backgrounds and skill sets contributed to this project, including five mother-daughter teams.
Mustang Mach-E
At this year’s SEMA show, the Mustang nameplate is to be represented by one Mach-E, the True Mustang Persona. It started life as a dual-motor GT with the extended range battery, painted in Shadow Black. It now dons a custom brown wrap from Kay Automotive and transparent wheel covers. This Mach has been widened by Dom Tucci Design (Tucci Hot Rods) with 3D-printed fender flares and a custom lift-gate spoiler. The cab sees two Recaro seats, racing harnesses strapped to a custom harness bar, and painted trim accents.
F-150 Lightning
Then there’s the Tjin Edition/Thule F-150 Lightning Swiss Army Knife. This all-wheel drive, extended range, SuperCrew Lariat is self-described as a “jack-of-all-trades,” equipped with solar charging, an air compressor, refrigerator, console vault, Recaro seats front and rear, and Thule cargo accessories. It even comes with two Super73 e-bikes mounted on the back.
And Lightning strikes twice with the Race Support model, built by Real Truck/Motor City Solutions. An all-wheel drive SuperCrew XLT in origin, this unit is designed as a Baja support vehicle. That means an air compressor, leveling kit, off-road recovery boards and even welding equipment. A custom underbody skid plate was added for extra protection, and extra Raptor wheels were strapped on to lend a helping hand (or tire) when the need arises.
