SEOUL: The Genesis EQ900 will be offered in three engine variants and will be fitted with an autonomous driving system called highway driving assist that enables the car to maintain a set distance from a vehicle automatically in front of it.
A recent report in a South Korean national newspaper Korea Joongang Daily said the full-size luxury car from Hyundai’s luxury arm would be sold with a choice of a 3.3-litre engine, a 3.8-litre turbo engine and a range-topper 5.0-litre engine.
Apparently, South Koreans have been quite taken by the buzz surrounding the Genesis EQ900 that they have started booking in droves on the first day without knowing the specifications of the car. The daily said 4,342 bookings were received by Hyundai in the first 24 hours when pre-orders opened.
The design of the EQ900 is inspired by the Hyundai Vision G coupe concept, and it replaces the Equus. Hyundai is expected to roll out six Genesis models by 2020, with the current Genesis being renamed as the G80.
As befits a luxury car with an eye on besting the European premium marques, the EQ900 will come with a raft of features such as DAA (Driver attention Alert), ASD (Active Sound Design) and HVCS (Hyundai Variable Control Suspension).
The EQ900 will launch in South Korea on Dec 9 followed by a global debut in 2016. It will be exported as the G90.
