If you've always fancied a McLaren GT but can't quite stump up the full £163,000 for the real one, McLaren has the very next best thing.
The catch? You have to be a kid aged between three and six to truly appreciate the British brand's latest wild supercar.
Priced between £163 and £234, the British brand’s latest offering for its younger fans is based on its latest continent-crushing McLaren GT that's capable of topping out at almost 203mph.
Finished in the real car’s Burnished Copper, Silica White, Onyx Black, McLaren Orange, Amaranth Red or Burton Blue exterior paint, the attention to detail includes replicating the GT’s dramatic dihedral doors and even its ultra-lightweight alloy rims.
Other delightful touches include working switchgear for the dash, bucket seats, seat belts, a functional boot, working tail-lights and even fake noise when the throttle is flattened.
Speaking of which, sadly there’s been no downsizing of the real GT’s powerful twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 which, under the McLaren road car’s rear boot lid, produces 620bhp and 630Nm.
Instead, there’s a 12-volt pure-electric powertrain. McLaren has yet to release performance details but it's unlikely to top out at any more than a brisk walking pace.
Optional extras for the mini-McLaren GT include an infotainment screen that can play music via a USB device or SD card.
Commenting on the new ride-on toy car, McLaren’s head of merchandising Hayley Robinson said: “At McLaren Automotive, we aim to inspire the future generation of supercar enthusiasts.
“The new GT Ride-On allows even the smallest of fans to discover the magic of our pioneering supercars. We’re proud to develop and encourage younger minds and seek to create the next generation of drivers, engineers and automotive designers.”
