All the proceeds were donated to a very worthy cause.
A build slot for the highly desirable Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 managed to raise $700,000 for charity at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas auction this past weekend. The hardcore Challenger initially sold for $400,000 but in a heart-warming gesture, the winning bidder decided to donate the vehicle back to Barrett-Jackson to be resold immediately.
The second round of bidding attracted an additional $300,000, meaning a grand total of $700,000 will be donated to Kristi House, a Florida-based non-profit that offers treatment for child trauma, among other things.
To generate some excitement, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman was on the auction block. The Days of Thunder star generously contributed VIP tickets to husband Keith Urban's concerts, just in case owning Dodge's ultimate muscle car wasn't enough.

The winning bidder will be receiving a truly special motorcar. The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the final iteration of the long-lived muscle car and the swansong of the V8-powered Dodge. After this, the Charger and Challenger replacements will have to do without the much-loved V8 configuration.
With E85 ethanol in its tank, the Demon 170 produces an incredible 1,025 horsepower and 945 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to lunge itself toward the horizon at immense speeds. 0-60 mph is dispatched in a mere 1.66 seconds, making it quicker than a flurry of electric supercars.
Aside from that, the lucky customer will be able to choose from Dodge's expansive lineup of colors or, better yet, request a custom paint job not available to other buyers. That would essentially make it a one-of-a-kind configuration, adding to its collectibility.

If the winning bidder already has a 2018 Demon tucked away in his garage, Dodge will happily match its VIN to the Challenger Demon 170, provided the number is still available. We're guessing the owner will be able to fill the vehicle with all the desired options, of which there are many.
There's a $5,995 Premium Package, which includes an 18-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, driver assists, and heated/ventilated seats with Laguna leather upholstery. Should you desire a sunroof, Dodge will begrudgingly equip one for the lavish sum of $9,995 – the automaker purposefully made it expensive to discourage owners from specifying the heavy luxury item.
We're elated that the Demon 170 attracted such generous bids for a good cause, continuing an excellent tradition. In May, the first Corvette E-Ray sold for $1.1 million. Last year, someone paid half a million dollars for a Cadillac Escalade-V, all in the name of supporting charity.
