DETROIT: Ferrari is going back to old-time collaborator Altair ProductDesign to create its next vehicle platform that will the the seed of several new flagship vehicle derivatives.
The Ferrari team will be working with Altair’s designers and engineers on-site at its vehicle development centre in Italy.
The new platform is expected to be 15% lighter, while enhancing the performance of crash, NVH and other critical attributes by over 20%.
The Next Generation architecture has an organic nature, with the structure flowing smoothly from sections to joints. It’s an outcome of a massive deployment of structural optimisation defining optimum material layout resulting in outstanding weight / performance characteristics, said Altair ProductDesign global chief technology officer Dr Royston Jones.
Ferrari has been working with Altair for over 10 years. The US-based Altair ProductDesign is staffed by over 800 people working from over 45 offices worldwide. Its services include product development, industrial design, workflow automation and the supplying of engineering and IT resources.
