The newest entry-level drop-top in Ferrari’s current lineup, the Roma Spider, has been unveiled. The Roma Spider replaces the Portofino M in Ferrari’s lineup.
Powering the Ferrari Roma Spider is the same 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine as in the coupe. It produces 620PS and 760 Nm of torque and all that is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The convertible matches the coupe’s 0-100 kmph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 320 kmph.
The spider employs the same carbon-fibre tub as the Roma coupe but with increased stiffness measures. The Roma Spider is 84 kg heavier overall than the 1,570 kg coupe.
The soft top itself is a significant feature since Ferrari bucked a decade-long tradition of hard-top convertibles. A five-layered custom cloth used for the roof offers equivalent sound absorption as the coupe’s tin top while being lighter. At up to 59 kmph, it can be opened in 13.5 seconds.
When the top is shut, the 255-litre boot capacity isn’t much reduced, though Ferrari didn’t specify how much. A unique, innovative wind deflector that is built into the back bench eliminates buffeting when the top is down.
A digital instrument cluster and an 8.4-inch infotainment system with a portrait orientation are also included in the interior, which envelops passengers. To make navigation a little bit simpler, the latter also has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
A thin 8.8-inch passenger display that offers performance and navigation data, as well as temperature and entertainment settings, may be added to the convertible if those screens weren’t enough.
