The future Ferrari Purosangue takes a great stride ahead thanks to the Italian company. One of the most anticipated models among the 2022 surprises, which has already been seen as a prototype hidden someplace in Italy. In recent days, the development of the new Ferrari Purosangue has taken a big step forward. This is the first spy photo of one of the production prototypes of the Italian brand’s first SUV, camouflaged in the Maranello firm’s typical clothing, and expected to replace the large fleet of mules seen over the last year and a half.
Despite the fact that they still run between Germany and Italy, both at the headquarters and in supplier facilities, it is undeniably a significant step forward. A single photograph of the Purosangue’s rear view that displays very no detail, but yes, the location of the exhausts at the extremities of the rear bumper can be perceived, and in certain accommodations with a rather striking size and vertically oriented exhausts can be detected.
The Ferrari Purosangue production prototypes have been on the road for a year.
Shapes that are particularly sporty, with an extended tailgate that reinforces the coupe form and a low loading barrier.
A rear form evocative of the new Ferrari Roma’s current design, with which he is expected to maintain a strong aesthetic affinity, particularly at the back. The breadth is accounted for by the massive tires at the extremities of the body, while the height of the body to the ground is also larger than that of mules.
One of the biggest surprises that we must see before the end of 2022 is the Ferrari Purosangue.
It will have a more refined look than recent models, but it will not follow the SUV pattern, opting instead for a crossover concept with well-balanced proportions and a low ceiling height.
This will not preclude a cabin with a capacity of four passengers in configuration 2 + 2, which is greater than a five-seater, from being offered. Maximum sportiness and comfort will be prioritized above a more recognizable notion known as a “FUV.”
The Purosangue will be available with a 6.5-liter atmospheric V12 engine, as well as a hybrid version that combines a V6 biturbo engine with an electric motor on the back axle, giving it direct complete traction. The various models will be equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission mounted on the back axle, keeping the Transaxle idea alive.
One thing is certain: the Italian company will strive to avoid daytime road testing in order to avoid collecting prized spy images. And it’s that, with prototypes since December, they’ve already gotten away with it.
The Purosangue (roughly translated: thoroughbred) denotes a turning point: late Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne had long rejected an off-roader, saying in 2016 when asked about a Ferrari SUV, “You have to shoot me first.”
When he delivered the company’s second-quarter financial results to investors in August 2017, he made his new attitude known.
The quote remained unchanged.
Marchionne, on the other hand, presented it in a different light.
If Ferrari enters the market with an SUV identical to BMW’s, Bentley’s, or Porsche’s, he should be shot.
SUVs and Ferraris do not mix.
The terms “Ferrari” and “SUV” did not go together for the new Ferrari chief, Louis Camillerie.
According to Camillerie, he was first hesitant, but the notion eventually won him over.
Finally, he declares himself to be a strong backer of the idea.
After all, it will widen the client base, particularly in China, where the well-heeled admire the brand but no longer fantasize about owning a sports vehicle.
Due to the rivalry from Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley, as well as Maserati, SUV versions have boosted sales.
With the Cullinan, even the luxury brand Rolls-Royce offers an SUV.
The Maserati Levante SUV, which has been on the market since 2016, is the basis for the Ferrari Purosangue.
It is, however, built on the revolutionary front-mid-engine design, with a V6 turbo engine mounted well behind the front axle and driving all four wheels through a dual-clutch transmission mounted on the back axle.
For the hybrid system, there is also an electric motor.
Customers may get the Purosangue without the hybrid drive if they like.
The system should be similar to that of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, with a six-cylinder engine, transaxle gearbox, and transversely locked rear-wheel drive.
Formula 1’s turbo technology
For the new turbo engine, Ferrari has patented a novel turbo arrangement.
This is based on the Formula 1 configuration.
A turbine connected to a generator in the exhaust system is meant to transform the exhaust energy into electricity.
A buffer battery then feeds the power to an electrically operated compressor on the intake side.
The Italians want to avoid turbo lag by doing so.
Because the turbine on the exhaust side is also built as a form of valve, the system shouldn’t sound any worse than a V8 or V12.
Maserati should be involved in the development of the hybrid system, as well as the cockpit design with modern electronics, head-up display, and infotainment. Thanks to diverse materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum, the Ferrari SUV embodies the current trend of lightweight construction.
Ferrai’s Purosangue as an SUV coup
The new architecture makes advantage of the V6 engine. Ferrari’s customized V12 and V8 engines will continue to be offered.
The new platform also offers for more flexibility in terms of alignment.
The placements of the V6 and electric motors, as well as the transmission, are fixed, but the wheelbase, like the number of seats and vehicle height, is customizable.
The roof abruptly slopes backwards, ending in a roof edge spoiler with a third brake light. The back window is tiny, but the tailgate has a wide hole. The lights are visible through the flap. The back view has a large diffuser and double-flow tailpipes, albeit the exhaust system in these photos does not yet conform to the series design. On the other hand, the wheel arches have a lot of flare and there are a lot of beads on the side. The bow handles on the doors are traditional. Through the open glass, a portion of the cockpit cover can be seen. In this photo gallery, you can view the rivals in the luxury SUV market.
