I’m a modest man, and only occasionally do I buy nice things, like a new guitar, a new kayak — sometimes I may even spend $21 on new jeans. I make sure to take extra care of these “nice” things. What do I have in common with the Derbyshire, United Kingdom Ferrari owner in this story? Probably nothing.
I say that because shortly after acquiring his “nice” thing, a new Ferrari 488, the first thing he did was, unluckily, crash it, after driving it fewer than two miles (3.2 kilometres). It’s likely safe to say the ink was still wet on the bill of sale.
Thankfully, he wasn’t injured, and as per a Daily Mail article, there were no charges or arrests made, leading me to believe that crude carelessness was the culprit, as opposed to inebriation.

The Derbyshire Policing Roads Unit posted a Tweet of the aftermath, which shows two pictures which would likely make Ferrari fans tear up. Interestingly, the bumper looks to be untouched, while the hood is clearly pushed up, which makes Detective Kana think the driver slammed on the brakes – bringing the nose low and rear end high – and collided with a large object with enough force to create the damage you see.
I certainly wouldn’t be that careless with my nice things, even if his nice thing is worth half of my house. Case. Closed.
