The world is a wash with red Ferraris – no bad thing, but it does make the supposedly rarified performance cars seem a little common on the streets of Monaco. True Ferrari collectors separate themselves from others by owning the most legendary of models, but the Prancing Horse’s ultimate devotees can actually create their own one-off machine. This is the Ferrari Omologata.
This beautifully sculptural car was commissioned as a bespoke project by one of Ferrari’s best customers. It’s based on the potent 812 Superfast, but it has undergone an extensive two year development program.
The design is said to take inspiration from racing, sci-fi and modern architecture. This concoction of ingenuity results in a car that only shares its windscreen and headlights with Ferrari’s flagship GT model. Even the paint is bespoke, dubbed Rosso Magma.
Ferrari states: “The objective was to exploit the proportions of the potent, mid-front layout to deliver a very sleek design defined by smooth volumes and undulating reflections, uplifted by sharp graphics with sparingly distilled surface breaks wherever dictated by aerodynamic functions. The trickiest aspect was striking the ideal balance between expressiveness and restraint: the Omologata had to ooze street presence whilst maintaining a very pure formal language.”
The Ferrari Omologata also receives a custom interior that again harks back to racers of old. Blue seats with harnesses are akin to Le Mans motorsport machines, and a hammered paint effect used on some details can be traced back to icons such as the Ferrari 250 LM.
Performance figures for the car haven’t been released, but it is presumed to share the same gloriously naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine as the Superfast. In that form it generates 789bhp and can sprint from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds. We’d be willing to bet that Ferrari smuggled a few extra horses under the bonnet for this car.
Serving as the ultimate evolution of the Ferrari 812 Superfast, this one-off Omologata is certainly a surefire way to stand out in a stable of stallions.
