As automakers continue to fight their way out of pandemic-related struggles, such as supplier issues, the world's most exclusive brands have reported excellent total sales for 2021. The latest is Ferrari. The Italian supercar brand, whose upcoming SUV, the Purosangue, hasn't even been revealed yet, has finally released its 2021 sales report. The final figures are beyond impressive.
Ferrari set a new sales record last year with a grand total of 11,155 new cars sold globally, beating 2020's total by 22.3 percent and 2019's by 10.1 percent. If you recall, 2019 was a significant year because it was the first time Ferrari sold over 10,000 vehicles annually.
“Our record 2021 financial results demonstrate once more the strength of our business model,” Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said. “We carefully managed an impressive order intake in line with our strategy to pursue controlled growth and preserve brand exclusivity. We recorded double-digit growth across all main financial indicators exceeding our guidance.”
Looking at the numbers more closely, Ferrari reports that sales of its V8 models, like the F8 Tributo, were up by 34.6 percent but V12-powered supercars saw a 16.1 percent sales drop. Ferrari blames this on “reduced volume” of the now phased-out 812 Superfast. The Prancing Horse specifically points out that deliveries of the Monza SP1 and SP2 were expectedly higher compared to 2020, and both have also ended their production runs. The new Portofino M and SF90 Spider, like the F8s family, saw increased deliveries as production is now in full swing.
Ferrari has further confirmed Europe, the Middle East, and Africa region (EMEA) continued to be its best market with a total of 5,492 deliveries, an impressive 14 percent increase over 2020. The Americas earned second place with 2,831 deliveries, a 22 percent boost. China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, interestingly, experienced the most significant sales increase by nearly doubling (97 percent) total volume to 899 cars.
Ferrari continues to be on a roll ever since its IPO in 2015 and, sometime this year, the Purosangue will finally be unveiled as either a 2023 or 2024 model. Certainly more excellent times ahead for the world's strongest brand. We suspect that 2022 will surpass 2021's already impressive sales tally.
